Maryam had promised her recipe for an absolutely delicious Sheer Korma. Who doesn’t love it? For us, this is what Eid was all about- going to our Muslim friends’ homes on Eid and tucking into the food and sheer korma! I plan on making some today for the family since this year a Muslim friend had Eid cookies instead of sheer korma!
1 liter milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup vermicelli (sewayian)
1/4 cup almonds, blanched, fried, ground
1/4 cup pistachios, fried and ground
2 tbsp, charoli, fried (this is a kind of nut; if not available it can be skipped).
saffron
1 tsp. cardamom powder
1 tsp. oil or ghee
Preparation:
Heat oil on medium heat and fry the vermicelli for just 2 min, not letting it get too brown.
Cook the milk and sugar until the milk boils. Add vermicelli and cook for 5 min. Add the rest of the ingredients and cook for another 5 min. Decorate with silver leaf paper or powdered nuts. Serve hot or cold. (* for a low fat version you can skip frying the vermicelli).
