As mentioned in our post below “Five Days of Diwali”, Dhanteras – October 15th this year – is considered an auspicious day that falls two days before Diwali. It is a day when people traditionally buy gold and silver, as it is a day known for prosperity, and a day when people worship Lord Dhanvantari (God of wealth; “dhan’ meaning wealth). On Dhanteras, the “Owl” form of the Goddess Laxmi is worshiped to provide prosperity and well being. Dhanteras holds a special significance for the business community due to the customary purchases of precious metals on this day. According to a survey, some companies do 30% of their annual business during Dhanteras! People also say that investments made on this day are lucky, so hit your portfolios tomorrow folks!
