“Bon Apetit!” What a delightful film! My husband looked very suspicious when I pulled out my movie, but the moment I told him it was about food, he acquiesced. And he was not disappointed. Starring the unbelievable Meryl Streep, who plays Julia Child, and the delightfully fresh Amy Adams, playing Julie Powell, it was an unusual tale based on a true story. Julie Powell, a government worker, decides one day that her life is meaningless and drab. She enjoys cooking, and embarks on a project to cook each and every one of Julia Child’s 500 + recipes in “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, in 365 days. Not only that, but she blogs about it. And the results are frustrating, delicious, traumatic and triumphant. Julia Child, of course, was as an American chef, author, and tv personality. She made French cooking techniques accesible to the American mainstream. Julia’s journey to becoming THE Julia Child, and Julie’s trials and tribuations are very entertaining watching. The movie parallels two eras: Julia’s entry into the world of French cooking and cookbooks, and Julie’s experiment and blog, and is a delightful treat (no pun intended)!
