HindiGym – a Fun, Innovative Effort by a Mom to teach kids Hindi
Every Indian parent living abroad desires that their kids get exposed to Indian culture and their national language, Hindi. However, lack of bilingual and illustrative resources and books make teaching a new language to these international kids a struggle. Many parents are always on the lookout for resources to teach Hindi to the kids. To fill this void and to make learning Hindi fun, easy and entertaining, Aarti Chandnani started HindiGym. HindiGym focuses on providing free, interactive, illustrated, bi-lingual and entertaining educational resources for learning Hindi. HindiGym also published various books that make learning Hindi easy, fun and exciting for little kids, especially non-resident Indian kids. All the worksheets on HindiGym site are free to use and download. These worksheets are widely used by various Hindi teaching schools in US and UK. They can be printed from the convenience of your home and worked on with kids at your own pace. All the worksheets are easy-to-follow with eye-catching illustrations.
HindiGym has also launched several great bi-lingual books. In their Hindi Phonics and Vocabulary book “Lala-the monkey” walks the kid through various story- like scenes and introduces letters and words. The Hindi Alphabet Writing Book introduces kids to writing each alphabet step-by-step. Both the books are of outstanding quality. All the illustrations used in the book are not ethnic but rather kid-friendly so that our kids can connect with them. The books are bilingual with Hindi transliteration so that even a non-Hindi speaker can easily pick up the book and start learning. With all these features the prices are kept especially reasonable. You can acquire both the books for under $10!
Founder, Aarti Chandnani, lives in San Francisco with her husband and 2-kids. As a full time working mom and a Hindi enthusiast Aarti was eager to teach her kids Hindi, but was disappointed with the lack of really good materials both in US and Indian markets. Sure there were lots of CDs/DVDs/Books out there but none really focused on teaching Hindi as a language. “I am very happy with the response HindiGym is receiving. I’m glad that a lot of parents can connect with it. It’s also not surprising to me that a lot of teachers across the globe are now using HindiGym materials! I hope to continue to bring more interesting materials for kids and parents all over.” – says Aarti.
