Holi 2012 in the Bay Area, CA

March 31st, 2012

Since many of you are asking for Holi happenings in the Bay Area- the big one coming up is the Asha Stanford Holi. It’s lots of fun for the kids and families- and due to its growing popularity, they are having the event over two days: Saturday, April 7th and Sunday, April 8th, making it the biggest communal Holi celebration  in the Bay Area!

They have a special area for the younger kids- to play Holi gently, which was much appreciated by yours truly a couple of years ago. The big change over the years has been the increase in the non-desis who come and enjoy the festivities with equal fervor! Tons of local non- desi families and Stanford students last year were evidence of the multi cultural appeal of Holi- a full on fun, Spring festival.

The Bollywood music and DJ were also a big hit last year, and probably be the case this year as well. The organizers seem to have kicked everything up by a few notches- I believe there will be fun dance competitions and  dance performances as well. As for the color- there is usually plenty of it- and it is actually chemical free!!

The best part: all proceeds will go to help the poor, underprivileged children in India. Asha has been doing a wonderful service over the years, and this is a great way for all of us more privileged lot to do pitch in!
